U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance announced that 30 of 33 defendants charged in a cocaine conspiracy case have been arrested. The investigation, which involved federal and local law enforcement agencies, uncovered a long-running conspiracy to distribute cocaine in north Alabama.

The 33-count indictment, unsealed in August, charged the defendants with conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine in Morgan and Madison counties from January 2013 to March 2015. The indictment also includes 26 counts of using a telephone to facilitate the drug conspiracy.

Most of the defendants live in the Huntsville-Decatur area and are charged with conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine. The indictment cites Marcus Mondez ‘Bubba’ Lampkin, 42, of Decatur, in individual calls with 26 of the other defendants. The investigation seized $468,250 in cash, over 38 kilograms of cocaine, and three firearms.

Law enforcement agencies made four more handguns and one rifle during the arrests. U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance praised the work of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, saying, ‘This investigation successfully took down a major cocaine-trafficking organization operating in northern Alabama.’

The arrests and seizures highlight the potentially devastating impact of the criminal enterprise on Madison-Morgan County and the surrounding area. The FBI, Decatur Police Department, and Madison-Morgan County HIDTA Task Force (STAC) were involved in the investigation and arrests.

The defendants, including Marcus Mondez ‘Bubba’ Lampkin, are facing charges of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
