New Jersey Man Sentenced to 30 Months in Prison for Distributing Cocaine

An associate of the DeCavalcante organized crime family of La Cosa Nostra was sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in distributing more than 500 grams of cocaine in Newark, New Jersey.

Mario Galli, 24, of Toms River, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of more than 500 grams of cocaine. He was arrested and charged by complaint in March 2015, along with nine members of the DeCavalcante crime family.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Galli admitted to selling more than one-half a kilo of cocaine to an undercover FBI agent for at least $78,000 between Dec. 12, 2014, and March 2015.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge William H. Walls sentenced Galli to three years of supervised release and fined him $1,000. Galli will also be spending 30 months behind bars for his involvement in the cocaine distribution ring.

The investigation into the DeCavalcante crime family was a collaborative effort between the FBI, the N.J. State Commission of Investigation, the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

Senior Litigation Counsel V. Grady O’Malley and Assistant U.S. Attorney James Donnelly represented the government in this case, while defense counsel James N. Butler Jr. Esq. represented Galli.
