Former investment broker Randy Beltramea, age 52, from Marion, Iowa, has been sentenced to an additional two years in federal prison for obstructing justice during his prior criminal prosecution. Beltramea was initially sentenced to more than nine years’ imprisonment for defrauding his clients.
In a hearing that exposed the lengths some will go to avoid accountability, Beltramea pleaded guilty to four counts of obstruction of justice. The government had initiated forfeiture proceedings against property acquired through fraudulent means when Beltramea attempted to thwart these efforts by accepting payments and placing a mortgage on the identified forfeitable property.
The sentence was imposed by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade in Cedar Rapids, with a special assessment of $400 added to Beltramea’s sentence. The federal system does not provide for parole.
