Marissa Weisbly, 33, of Los Osos, California, pleaded guilty on August 19, 2020, to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in a sweeping drug operation that stretched from the West Coast to rural Iowa. The guilty plea, entered in federal court in Sioux City, ties Weisbly to a network that hauled pounds of high-purity meth into the Midwest for street-level distribution.
On February 8, 2020, law enforcement patrolling the Grand Falls Casino parking lot in Larchwood, Iowa, discovered four bags containing 1,215 grams of actual methamphetamine stashed in a vehicle Weisbly shared with two others. Also seized: two digital scales, drug paraphernalia, $817 locked in a safe, heroin, and marijuana—evidence that painted a clear picture of a mobile drug operation in full swing.
During her plea hearing, Weisbly admitted she and her co-conspirators transported bulk quantities of methamphetamine across state lines with the intent to distribute. The operation targeted the Midwest, exploiting regional transit routes and rural drop points to avoid detection—until surveillance and local law enforcement shut it down.
Weisbly now faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in federal prison and a possible life sentence. She could also be fined up to $10,000,000 and subjected to at least five years of supervised release if ever freed. She remains in custody under the authority of the United States Marshal, with sentencing scheduled after a presentence investigation report is completed.
Chief U.S. District Judge Leonard T. Strand will oversee the sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mikala Steenholdt and built through collaboration between the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Lyon County Attorney’s Office, and the Iowa Department of Criminalistics Investigation—a joint effort that dismantled a critical supply chain in the regional drug trade.
