A devastating case of oxycodone distribution has come to light in West Virginia, with two residents admitting to their roles in the operation. The shocking revelations have sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the pervasive issue of prescription drug abuse in the state.

Marjorie Sue Webster, a 24-year-old resident of Maidsville, West Virginia, has admitted to using a phone to assist others in distributing oxycodone in March 2017 in Monongalia County.

Christopher Moriarty, a 25-year-old resident of Buckhannon, West Virginia, has also admitted to his role in the oxycodone distribution operation. Moriarty, who has a history of questionable activities, sold oxycodone in June 2015 in Upshur County.

The investigation into the oxycodone distribution operation was led by the Mon Metro Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley is prosecuting the cases on behalf of the government.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Moriarty, who has a history of questionable activities, faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the proceedings, overseeing the guilty pleas of Webster and Moriarty.

The case is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance in the fight against prescription drug abuse. As the opioid epidemic continues to ravage the nation, it is imperative that those responsible for facilitating these crimes are held accountable.
