Mark Abercrombie, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Louisiana 2022

MONROE, La. – Mark Abercrombie, 45, of Monroe, was sentenced to 132 months (11 years) in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Abercrombie was involved in a one-vehicle crash in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, on October 22, 2022, and fled the scene prior to the arrival of Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies. Deputies found a Ruger Model LC9 9×19 pistol and ammunition and .22 caliber ammunition in his vehicle. Abercrombie was a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, including nine felony convictions, and knew he was prohibited from possessing any firearm or ammunition.

Abercrombie was subsequently arrested and charged with illegally possessing the firearm and ammunition. He pleaded guilty to the charge on April 19, 2024. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“This is a clear case of a convicted felon disregarding the law and putting public safety at risk,” said United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown. “The sentence is a reflection of the severity of the offense and the defendant’s prior record.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Seth D. Reeg.

Abercrombie’s lengthy criminal history includes nine felony convictions, and his actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and public safety.

The sentence is a result of a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to keep firearms out of the wrong hands and reduce gun violence in Ouachita Parish and northeast Louisiana.
