Mark Alan Yoder, Bail Bond Violation, Florida 2023

Martin County resident Mark Alan Yoder, 55, of Hobe Sound, has been convicted for violating the terms of his bail bond after he skipped out on sentencing in a federal court. The United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Wifredo A. Ferrer, and Special Agent in Charge George L. Piro of the FBI Miami Field Office announced the conviction yesterday.

Yoder was initially convicted by a federal jury on March 22, 2016, for bank and mail fraud schemes. He was released on bail but failed to appear for sentencing. The judge found Yoder guilty of failure to appear in court, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 3146.

In addition to facing up to 10 years in prison for the bond jumping conviction, which will run consecutively to any sentences imposed for his original crimes, Yoder has been awaiting sentencing on the two pending cases. Senior United States District Judge Paul C. Huck is yet to schedule a hearing for this matter.

According to court documents and trial testimony, Yoder refused to recognize the court’s authority and disregarded multiple notices, including a visit from the United States Probation Office, before skipping his scheduled appearance at the Fort Pierce Courthouse. An arrest warrant was issued, and Yoder was apprehended by the United States Marshals Service.

Yoder’s fraudulent activities included sending demands for large damage payments to police officers and bank executives, as well as filing a fraudulent mechanic’s lien against his former home’s bank property. The investigation into these crimes led to Mr. Ferrer commending the efforts of the FBI, the United States Marshals Service, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the Tequesta Police Department, and the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Martin County.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodore Cooperstein handled the prosecution of this case. Additional court documents and information are available on the District Court for the Southern District of Florida website at www.flsd.uscourts.gov or on http://pacer.flsd.uscourts.gov.
