Mark Alexander, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Massachusetts 2015
A Springfield man has been sentenced for his role in the unlawful possession of a firearm in Massachusetts in 2015. Mark Alexander, 26, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni.
According to court documents, Alexander and his co-defendant, Hector Nieves, worked together to sell a .22 caliber pistol and ammunition to a cooperating witness on September 2, 2015. However, Alexander was prohibited from possessing a firearm and ammunition due to a prior felony offense.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force and the ATF. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant of Weinreb’s Springfield Branch Office prosecuted the case.
Nieves was also sentenced to five years in prison for the same charge in July 2016. Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb; Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division; and Mickey D. Leadingham, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division, made the announcement today.
