It’s no secret that Salt Lake City has been hit by a series of high-profile bank robberies, but the latest twist involves Mark Allen Call. The 37-year-old Layton resident is now staring down two counts of bank robbery, after being accused of pulling off a double heist at Zions Bank in Salt Lake City.
According to the Department of Justice’s USAO for Utah, a federal grand jury delivered its verdict on Wednesday, charging Call with robbing the institution twice. The first hit came on February 13, 2013, and the second was just one day later on February 14, 2013. Both incidents took place at the same location – 1420 South 300 West in Salt Lake City.
Call is up against serious charges, as each count of bank robbery carries a potential sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine that could reach $250,000. The arraignment for this case is set for Thursday at 3 p.m., where U.S. Magistrate Judge Evelyn Furse will oversee the proceedings.
Despite the charges, it’s important to note that an indictment is not a conviction. Call, like any individual charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
