Toledo Man Charged in Jimmy John’s Robbery
On September 25, Mark Larkett, 29, used a firearm to rob a Jimmy John’s sandwich shop at 405 Adams Street in Toledo, Ohio. The brazen daylight heist has left the community shaken.
Larkett, a convicted felon, allegedly possessed a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber pistol during the robbery. He has been charged with one count each of Hobbs Act robbery, use of a firearm during a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The indictment, handed down after a thorough investigation by the Toledo Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, marks a significant development in the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas P. Weldon is handling the case.
Mark Larkett, the defendant, is a 29-year-old Toledo resident with a prior conviction for robbery. If convicted, his sentence will be determined by the court after reviewing factors unique to this case, including his prior criminal record, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation.
The sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum. An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of gun violence and the importance of holding accountable those who commit crimes with firearms. As the investigation continues, the community can take comfort in the fact that justice is being pursued.
