BUFFALO, NY – A chaotic sequence of events culminated in the arrest of Marlon Servance, 22, of Buffalo, following a high-speed chase that ended in a deadly crash. Servance is now facing federal charges related to an illegal firearm recovered during the investigation.
According to court documents, on May 23, 2023, Servance allegedly opened fire on a vehicle carrying two victims near Jefferson and Best Streets in Buffalo. Victim 1, the driver, attempted to flee, but the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Main Street and Utica Avenue, tragically striking and killing Victim 3. The crash scene was a scene of carnage, witnesses said.
Buffalo Police quickly apprehended Servance at an apartment on East Ferry Street. A search of the residence uncovered a black, semi-automatic Smith and Wesson firearm with its serial number deliberately obliterated – a clear attempt to conceal its origin. Investigators also found numerous spent cartridge casings matching the weapon inside Servance’s vehicle.
Servance appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder, Jr. this afternoon and is currently being held without bail. A detention hearing is scheduled for May 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. where authorities will argue to keep him locked up pending trial. If convicted of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, Servance faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Buffalo Police Department, led by Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia, the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, headed by Special Agent-in-Charge John B. DeVito. The ATF played a key role in tracing the firearm and building the case against Servance.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas T. Cooper is prosecuting the case. It’s crucial to remember that this is simply an accusation, and Servance is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. But the evidence suggests a dangerous individual with a blatant disregard for human life, and the Grimy Times will continue to follow this case closely.
