Rochester Man Guilty of Gun Charge
A Rochester man has pleaded guilty to a firearm charge after a string of events led to his arrest. Clive Hamilton, 30, was found to be in possession of two registered handguns and a quantity of marijuana on August 12, 2012.
Hamilton was arrested in his vehicle at the time, and the handguns were seized as evidence. The amount of marijuana found is not specified in the charges. His guilty plea will result in the forfeiture of the handguns.
The case was investigated by the DEA and the Town of Greece Police Department. Special Agents of the DEA, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Brian R. Crowell, New York Field Division, and members of the Town of Greece Police Department, under the direction of Todd K. Baxter, worked together to bring Hamilton to justice.
Hamilton’s plea is a result of the maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both, associated with the charge of possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Noto handled the case and praised the collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies. The plea is a significant step towards justice for the community, and it highlights the importance of working together to combat gun violence and drug trafficking.
The sentencing of Hamilton is scheduled for August 14, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. before U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.
This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of possessing a firearm while under the influence of controlled substances. The community can rest assured that law enforcement agencies will continue to work together to keep streets safe and bring perpetrators to justice.
