Meth Trafficking Epidemic Continues to Plague Bozeman Community

A 62-year-old man from Clyde Park, Montana, has been sentenced to four years in prison for his involvement in methamphetamine trafficking in the Bozeman area, according to a recent U.S. Attorney’s office press release.

Marty Eugene McDonald pleaded guilty in December 2021 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, a felony offense that carries severe penalties. McDonald’s guilty plea marked the end of a lengthy investigation by the Missouri River Drug Task Force and the Montana Highway Patrol.

According to court documents, McDonald reported to law enforcement that he had received about two pounds of methamphetamine from co-defendant Jared Williams over a six-month period. Williams, who was previously sentenced to eight years in prison for his conviction in the case, had been dealing methamphetamine for several years before McDonald became involved.

The investigation, which began in late 2020, led to the arrest of several individuals, including co-defendants Max Stilson and Arthur Kane. Stilson, who failed to appear for sentencing after his conviction, remains a fugitive, and an arrest warrant has been issued for his capture. Kane, who was sentenced to five years in prison for his conviction, had also been involved in the methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer S. Clark prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Missouri River Drug Task Force and the Montana Highway Patrol. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative to reduce violent crime. Through PSN, federal, tribal, state, and local law enforcement partners in Montana focus on violent crime driven by methamphetamine trafficking, armed robbers, firearms offenses, and violent offenders with outstanding warrants.
