Mar’yo Doyuan Lindsey, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Iowa 2020

A 24-year-old Waterloo resident has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa.

Mar’yo Doyuan Lindsey was convicted of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a federal offense, after the Iowa State Patrol found him in possession of a large capacity magazine and ammunition on July 3, 2020.

A few days later, on July 12, 2020, Waterloo police officers found Lindsey in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.

Lindsey had previously been convicted of several felony offenses, including possession of a firearm as a felon and carrying weapons on school grounds, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, willful injury causing bodily injury, possession of a firearm as a felon, and going armed with intent.

Lindsey faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Reinert and was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, the Waterloo Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime, and Project Guardian, a federal initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.

Lindsey remains in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing, which will be set after a presentence report is prepared.
