Rapid City Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
Rapid City, SD – In a shocking case of failure to comply with sex offender registration, Mason Neck, 35, of Rapid City, has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
According to U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell, Neck was convicted of Abusive Sexual Contact in 2019 and was required to register as a sex offender. In September 2023, he began a period of supervised release residing in Rapid City and appropriately registered as a sex offender.
However, in April 2024, Neck moved from his registered address without updating his registration. He was arrested in Rapid City on May 8, 2024.
Mason Neck was sentenced on November 25, 2024, to one year and one day in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Kirk Albertson.
Neck was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
