CONCORD – The grim reaper of the gun trade met his match today as Gicliff Rodriguez, a 24-year-old Massachusetts native, was handed a 63-month federal prison sentence for trafficking firearms and illegally possessing a firearm. U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan announced the sentencing, which also includes 3 years of supervised release.
On May 2025, Rodriguez copped to his crimes, admitting to the illegal purchase and possession of firearms by a prohibited person. His co-defendant, Rachael Cummings, received a slap on the wrist with 12 months of probation after her sentencing on June 30, 2025.
Creegan made it clear that the law is not to be trifled with, stating, ‘Federal law is clear: if you are prohibited from possessing a firearm, you cannot sidestep this restriction by having someone else buy one for you.’ Rodriguez’s actions endangered the public, and his sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of flouting the law.
Acting Special Agent in Charge Bryan DiGirolamo echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the danger posed by illegal firearm trafficking. ‘Rodriguez placed firearms in the hands of criminals who used them to commit acts of violence,’ he said. The sentence handed down today reflects this risk and should serve as a warning to all.
According to court documents, Rodriguez, a convicted felon, had instructed Cummings to purchase three semiautomatic weapons for him at a firearms store in New Hampshire. Two of these handguns were later recovered after being used in violent crimes in Massachusetts. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Hunter leading the prosecution.
This sentence is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling criminal organizations and protecting communities from violent crime. ATF commends the Lowell Police Department for their invaluable assistance in this investigation.
