Hattiesburg Man Sentenced for SNAP Fraud

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A Hattiesburg heartthrob has been sentenced to a probationary term after being caught with his hand in the federal cookie jar. Velton Taylor Williams, Jr., 31, was hit with five years’ probation for his deplorable scheme to siphon off Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

According to court documents and statements made in open court, Williams shamelessly acquired and exploited SNAP benefits from a federal program designed to help struggling families put food on the table. The 31-year-old admitted to selling these vital benefits to others while simultaneously using them for his own greedy purposes.

This former community star also admitted to dipping into Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash benefits, meant to support low-income families with children under 18. Williams’ criminal exploits have cost the federal government a staggering $38,963.14 in restitution.

Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi and Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Deuchler of the United States Department of Agriculture Office of the Inspector General were quick to announce the sentence. The United States Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General is currently probing this case, aiming to bring justice to those who have been victimized by such heartless theft.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly T. Purdie has taken the lead in prosecuting Williams, ensuring that this predator on the streets of Hattiesburg faces the full brunt of federal law.

As the community grapples with the impact of Williams’ actions, one thing is clear: the fight against fraud and corruption will continue until justice is served. Stay tuned to Grimy Times for more updates on this unfolding story.
