Hattiesburg, Miss. – Charles Ezekiel Spangler, 38, of Wiggins, has entered a guilty plea in federal court for the transportation of child pornography. The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge Jermicha Fomby of the FBI.
Spangler was pinpointed by the FBI following an alert from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which indicated he uploaded explicit images of minors to his Tumblr account in June 2018.
Scheduled for sentencing on March 8, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. in Hattiesburg, Spangler stands to be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. The sentence will be determined by a federal district judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Jones is handling the prosecution for this case, which is part of Project Safe Childhood – an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to tackle child sexual exploitation and abuse. The FBI is collaborating with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Division to investigate this case.
