Gulfport, MS – In a chilling revelation of the dark underbelly of cybercrime, Tyrone Lewis, 20, from Pascagoula, Mississippi, has pleaded guilty to distributing images of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The harrowing details of the case have sent shockwaves through the local community.
Lewis stands accused of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old victim in Jackson County and recording some of the acts on his cell phone. An investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations revealed that Lewis not only had intimate encounters but also shared videos of himself and the victim with others, confirming his knowledge that the victim was a minor.
The evidence against Lewis was further strengthened when investigators analyzed the victim’s cell phone, which contained text messages confirming Lewis’s awareness of the victim’s age. The court documents paint a disturbing picture of a predator who used technology to exploit a child.
Lewis has now pleaded guilty to distribution of images of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct and is scheduled for sentencing on October 10, 2024. He faces up to twenty years in prison, a sentence that reflects the gravity of his actions. A federal district court judge will determine the final sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors.
The investigation into Lewis’s activities was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee Smith is handling the prosecution of this case, which is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
