Walter Edward Bohl, Unlawful Firearm Possession, Mississippi 2020

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Walter Edward Bohl, a 64-year-old resident of Pascagoula, Mississippi, has pleaded guilty to the serious offense of illegally possessing a firearm. The revelation came as Bohl stood before U.S. District Judge Halil S. Ozerden in Gulfport.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) executed a federal search warrant at Bohl’s residence on May 20, 2020. During the raid, they discovered a Smith and Wesson Model M&P 15, 5.56 caliber Rifle. The disturbing discovery was made even more so by the fact that Bohl was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior commitment to a mental institution.

Bohl was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury on June 23, 2020, and now faces a daunting sentence. If Judge Ozerden sentences him as per the maximum penalty, Bohl could spend up to ten years in prison and be forced to pay a staggering $250,000 fine.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 30, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., in Gulfport. The ATF has been tasked with investigating this case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Jones will handle the prosecution.

Walter Edward Bohl’s illegal possession of a firearm is a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by those who have been deemed mentally unstable. His case serves as a call to action for law enforcement and policymakers to address the intersection of mental health and gun ownership with greater urgency.

This disturbing incident has left the community on edge, demanding answers and justice. As Walter Bohl awaits his fate, the grim reality of illegal firearm possession remains a pressing concern in Pascagoula and beyond.
