BEAUMONT, Texas – In a gritty turn of events, Tarrell Donald Nowlin, 53, from Nederland, has pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from an armed robbery at the Speedway Gas Station on January 16, 2024. The heist left gas station clerk and customers shaken.
Nowlin, clad in a mask, gloves, and hat, pointed a silver revolver during the attack, making off with $550. Law enforcement responded swiftly, leading to Nowlin’s identification and arrest.
On July 2, 2024, the 53-year-old pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christine L. Stetson. The defendant now faces up to 20 years in federal prison at sentencing, with the actual sentence to be determined by the court based on advisory guidelines and other factors.
This case is a significant victory for Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Department of Justice’s initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. The PSN program focuses on the most violent offenders while partnering with local programs for lasting reductions in crime.
Nowlin’s sentencing hearing will be scheduled following a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office. The case was investigated and prosecuted with the cooperation of the FBI, Beaumont Police Department, and Nederland Police Department, led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Quinn.
