Garald Benson Johnson, Production of Child Pornography, New York 2023

In a chilling case of child exploitation, Pearl River man Garald Benson Johnson has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography. The 43-year-old was caught on camera engaging in lewd acts with a minor.

Johnson faced the music when he pled guilty to production of child pornography on August 29, 2023, following an indictment by a federal grand jury on May 16, 2023. His guilty plea came after court documents confirmed his despicable act of filming himself having sexual intercourse with a minor.

The sentence handed down is a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies like the Choctaw Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which jointly investigated the case. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin J. Payne and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian K. Burns, who did not flinch in their pursuit of justice.

The sentence was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse that was launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006. This initiative has been instrumental in identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as rescuing victims.

Project Safe Childhood, led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), has marshaled federal, state, and local resources to protect our youth from predators.
