BOSTON – The grim saga of Danny Miguel Tejada Hernandez, a Dominican national, reached its conclusion yesterday as he was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for the heinous crime of illegal reentry into the United States after his deportation. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy, will be followed by two years of supervised release, marking a harsh lesson in the consequences of ignoring U.S. immigration laws.
Tejada Hernandez, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien back in June 2025, after being indicted by a federal grand jury earlier that year. His journey back to America began on an unknown date and place, where he crossed the border without legal permission.
Before his deportation, Tejada Hernandez had already been convicted in Chelsea District Court for drug-related offenses. On March 9, 2020, he was found guilty of possession to distribute a Class A controlled substance, two counts of possession to distribute a Class B controlled substance, and one count of distributing/dispensing a Class B controlled substance. He was deported in August 2021, only to return once more.
His second illegal journey ended on Feb. 1, 2024, when he was convicted again in Suffolk County Superior Court for possession to distribute a Class A controlled substance and one count to distribute/dispense of a Class A controlled substance. Currently serving a three-year state prison sentence for these charges, the defendant’s latest conviction brings his total punishment into sharp focus.
The severity of his sentence was made clear by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, who announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Soto of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted this case with relentless dedication.
The sentence handed down to Danny Miguel Tejada Hernandez serves as a stark reminder that the United States will not tolerate illegal reentry, especially for those with a history of drug trafficking. As he begins his federal prison term, his future in America remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: justice has been served.
