MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Sterling Ross, IV, a 32-year-old Okmulgee resident, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for Felon in Possession of Ammunition. The sentence comes after Ross’s conviction for running a stop sign and leading police on a dangerous high-speed chase through Okmulgee.
Ross pleaded guilty to the charge on March 12, 2025, following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Okmulgee Police Department. During his attempted escape, Ross left his vehicle running with doors open, leading police to discover a Glock magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition.
Investigators revealed that Ross had previously been convicted of a crime that carried a sentence of more than one year imprisonment, at the time he possessed the illegal ammunition. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a national initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across America.
The Honorable Ronald A. White presided over Ross’s sentencing hearing in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Ross will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until transportation to a federal prison facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly represented the United States in the case, which underscores the Department’s commitment to PSN and its core principles of fostering trust in communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
