Curtessa Monet Franklin, Firearms Straw Purchase, Massachusetts 2024

Curtessa Monet Franklin, a 21-year-old from Canton, Massachusetts, has been caught red-handed for her role in a firearms scam.

According to a federal court in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Franklin conspired with two locals to purchase a firearm by falsely claiming they were the intended buyers. But in reality, it was Franklin who was the true purchaser.

The scheme was uncovered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which led to Franklin’s guilty plea on charges of ‘Conspiracy to Provide a False Statement During the Attempted Purchase of a Firearm.’

Franklin faces a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Her sentencing will be determined by the seriousness of the offense and her prior criminal history.

Prosecuting the case was Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Adkins, who represented the government in the courtroom.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings, which brought Franklin’s scheme to an end.

The case is a stark reminder of the importance of gun laws and the consequences of lying to purchase firearms.
