Ohio Man Accused of Methamphetamine Trafficking and Firearms Charges

A 37-year-old man from Ohio has been charged with methamphetamine trafficking and firearms charges, authorities said.

Matthew R. Golech, 37, was indicted on one count of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of using a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, said U.S. Attorney Carole S. Rendon.

According to the indictment, Golech had approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine on January 15. He also had a Bersa Firestorm .22 caliber pistol that he used in furtherance of drug trafficking, authorities said.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron P. Howell following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the United States of America’s burden to prove each defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

If convicted, a defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendants’ prior criminal record, if any, the defendants’ roles in the offense and the characteristics of the violations.

Golech is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges. The public is advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
