Alexandria, LA – Maurice T. Smith, 32, of Ferriday, was sentenced to life in prison for his role in transporting methamphetamine.
According to evidence and testimony presented at trial, Smith conspired with Chavo T. Thomas, also of Ferriday, to deliver two pounds of pure methamphetamine from California to Ferriday.
Thomas, 30, was sentenced to 275 months in prison and 10 years of supervised release for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The defendants were arrested as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Operation ‘Delta Blues’ investigation.
On October 28, 2011, Thomas was arrested at a Brookhaven, Mississippi train station with two pounds of pure methamphetamine.
Smith was arrested later in Ferriday.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley commended the work of the law enforcement agencies who investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James G. Cowles Jr. prosecuted the case.
