Matthew Shawn Victor Bridges, Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, Iowa 2021

A convicted felon with a history of violence has been brought to justice in Iowa’s federal court. Matthew Shawn Victor Bridges, 30, of Marshalltown, Iowa, pleaded guilty to a string of crimes, including conspiracy to distribute over 50 grams of pure methamphetamine, possession of three rifles, and possession of two more firearms.

The charges stem from two separate incidents in 2020. On January 3, 2020, Iowa Falls police officers responded to a suspicious car near a warehouse, where they found a running vehicle containing a large quantity of methamphetamine and three rifles. The subsequent investigation found that Bridges was in possession of over 1000 grams of pure methamphetamine on that date.

On February 16, 2020, Iowa Falls police officers were investigating a home invasion and assault when they saw Bridges driving by the scene. A search of his vehicle uncovered more methamphetamine and two more firearms.

Bridges’ guilty plea was entered as part of a plea agreement, in which he admitted to the charges. Sentencing will be held at a later date, pending a presentence report. Bridges faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000,000, and 5 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Reinert, with assistance from the Iowa Falls Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, Hardin County Attorney’s Office, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.

Matthew Shawn Victor Bridges remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. The community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that this convicted felon will be held accountable for his crimes.

The case is a prime example of the success of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime through evidence-based strategies. PSN brings together a broad spectrum of stakeholders to identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in the community.
