Maurice Gotti Bellamy, 29, Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison for Heroin Distribution in New Hanover County, North Carolina
A hard-hitting blow to the heroin trafficking world was dealt when Maurice ‘Gotti’ Bellamy, 29, of New Hanover County, North Carolina, was sentenced to 132 months in prison for his role in distributing heroin in the area.
According to court documents and evidence presented in court, on June 11, 2019, Bellamy sold a quantity of heroin to someone working at the direction of law enforcement in Wilmington. The investigation uncovered that Bellamy was involved in the distribution of more than 2 kilograms of heroin.
Bellamy pleaded guilty to the charges on June 4, 2020, and was sentenced to 11 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan. This sentence is the result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which focuses on disrupting and dismantling high-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
The OCDETF operation that led to Bellamy’s conviction is part of a larger effort to take down a Multi-State Drug Trafficking Organization and Gang Activity that has been responsible for the distribution of heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine throughout the country.
The investigation into Bellamy’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Wilmington Police Department, Holly Ridge Police Department, and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo prosecuted the case.
Maurice ‘Gotti’ Bellamy’s conviction is a significant blow to the heroin trafficking world and a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies in the area. His sentence serves as a warning to those involved in similar activities that they will be held accountable for their actions.
