GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Former Maverick County Justice of the Peace Cesar Iracheta, 56, of Eagle Pass, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for alleged ‘pay-to-play’ bribery involving county construction contracts. FBI agents arrested Iracheta this morning on charges announced by Acting United States Attorney Richard Durbin, Jr., and FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs.
The indictment returned on Wednesday and unsealed today accuses Iracheta of paying bribes to secure two construction contracts worth approximately $49,000 in 2010 and another contract valued at $22,500 in 2011. It is alleged that Iracheta used his business, C&A Construction, to submit inflated bids to Maverick County, ensuring funds for work, profit, and bribery payments.
Iracheta faces up to ten years in federal prison on each of the two bribery charges if convicted. The investigation into this ongoing scheme is a joint effort between the FBI, Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigative Division, and Customs and Border Protection Office of Internal Affairs.
