Joe Anthony Plascencia, Firearms Trafficking, Texas 2024

SHERMAN, Texas — The grim tale of Joe Anthony Plascencia’s reign of terror in McKinney has reached its conclusion. The 32-year-old felon was sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison for a brazen firearms violation at a Plano business.

Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced the sentence, which includes 137 months in federal custody for Plascencia’s crime of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The punishment was handed down by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant, III, on August 14, 2025.

The case began with a chilling 911 call from an establishment in Plano, Texas. Local law enforcement arrived to find Plascencia in possession of several firearms, including a pistol and a hunting rifle, a large camo bag filled with ammunition, and body armor. Further investigation revealed that despite his felony conviction, Plascencia was prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition.

This is no isolated incident; it’s part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguarding communities from violent crime. The operation leverages the full resources of the Department of Justice, including Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

The Plano Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) conducted the investigation that led to Plascencia’s conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chalana A. Oliver prosecuted the case with relentless determination.
