Chicago’s West Side witnessed a brutal sequence of events as KIAR EVANS, 26, faced justice for his chilling spree of carjackings. Evans was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison after being convicted on all counts, including carjacking and attempted carjacking. The incidents occurred within minutes on May 20, 2021, when Evans targeted vehicles at gunpoint.
In the first instance, Evans fired shots through a window of a Chevrolet Impala before turning his attention to a Nissan Altima. Pointing a firearm at the driver’s window, he forced the victim out and made off with the car. The spree continued until Evans was involved in a multi-vehicle crash that led to his arrest.
Upon arrest, Evans was found with a loaded semi-automatic handgun, illegal for him to possess as a previously convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Martha M. Pacold imposed the sentence during a hearing on July 18, 2025. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paige A. Nutini and Jimmy L. Arce argued that Evans’s actions demonstrated a callous disregard for the safety of others.
Evans has been detained in federal custody since his arrest last year. The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, along with Douglas S. DePodesta and Larry Snelling.
The judge’s decision reflects a strong message against violent crime and illegal firearm possession, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated.
