Local Woman Sentenced for Assault Charges
A McLaughlin woman has been sentenced to 30 days in custody after pleading guilty to Assault by Striking, Beating and Wounding and Simple Assault.
Thomasine Long Feather, 21, was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on May 9, 2013, to 30 days in custody on each count, to run concurrently.
Long Feather was also ordered to pay a $20 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stems from an incident in the early morning hours of September 19, 2012, when Long Feather unlawfully entered a home in McLaughlin with the intention of confronting the victim about a prior argument.
Upon entering the home, Long Feather threw the victim to the ground and began to repeatedly strike the victim on the head and face.
Long Feather is to self-surrender on May 28, 2013, to begin serving her sentence.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley.
The indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury in December of 2012.
