Melanie Mitchell, Distribution of Methamphetamine, Delaware 2023

Melanie Mitchell, 35, and an Ocean View resident, has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for her role in distributing methamphetamine, according to a recent sentencing. Mitchell was sentenced on January 8, 2024, and was allowed to self-report to the designated prison on that date.

This sentencing follows a previous case where Melanie Mitchell’s husband, Vincent Mitchell, was sentenced to 48 months in prison for the same offense. Vincent Mitchell was also sentenced by Chief Judge Colm F. Connolly on September 9, 2023.

In July 2022, investigators executed a search warrant at the Mitchells’ Ocean View home and seized one pound of methamphetamine and $6,000 in cash. An investigation revealed that the couple would regularly drive from Ocean View to Philadelphia to purchase a pound of methamphetamine, which they would then sell in the Ocean View area.

According to U.S. Attorney David C. Weiss, “Far too many people and their families suffer from substance abuse. This sentence puts an end to the Mitchells’ drug distribution business. I commend the Ocean View Police Department and DEA for working together to keep our communities safe.”

“Methamphetamine is a dangerous and powerful stimulant drug that has destroyed countless lives,” said Thomas Hodnett, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Philadelphia Field Division. “I would like to thank U.S. Attorney David Weiss and the Ocean View Police Department for their participation in and support of this case.”

The case was investigated by the Ocean View Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Edmund Falgowski prosecuting the case.

Melanie Mitchell’s sentencing marks the end of the couple’s involvement in the methamphetamine distribution business. The exact date of the crime was not specified, but the investigation began in July 2022.
