Darrell J. Lindsey, a 44-year-old former Peoria resident, was at the center of a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation that spanned over a year, from August 2020 to May 2021, in Peoria, Illinois. During this time, Lindsey conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute massive amounts of methamphetamine, including 145.5 grams of pure meth and 3,449.5 grams of the drug. The operation involved shipping meth to individuals in Peoria while Lindsey was out of state and culminated in the seizure of approximately nine pounds of meth from a Morton hotel room in March 2021.
The investigation, which began in August 2020, led to the execution of a search warrant on Lindsey’s residence, resulting in the seizure of 52 grams of meth, multiple firearms, and ammunition. Lindsey’s actions did not go unnoticed, and he was eventually arrested in Washington state in April 2024 on unrelated charges. He was then returned to Illinois for federal prosecution.
Lindsey’s plea agreement in January 2026 paved the way for his sentencing on August 6, 2026. U.S. District Judge Jonathan E. Hawley handed down a sentence of 135 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The sentence was enhanced due to Lindsey’s possession of a firearm during the commission of the offense.
The case highlights the severity of methamphetamine trafficking and the consequences of such actions. The statutory penalties for conspiring to distribute and possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine can range from 10 years to life imprisonment, along with significant fines and supervised release.
