Ramon Salgado-Delgadillo, a 38-year-old Mexican national with a prior conviction for felony sexual assault, was found in Chicago on November 5, 2023, eight months after being deported to Mexico. He had been sentenced to four years in state prison for the sex assault offense in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Salgado-Delgadillo pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry after removal in February 2026. He was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison, followed by a year of court-supervised release.
Salgado-Delgadillo’s prior criminal conviction and failure to register as a sex offender were cited as serious concerns by Assistant US Attorney Jill J. Bhalakia. The government argued that his four-year sentence did not deter him from returning to the US and continuing to violate the law. The sentence was imposed by US District Judge John F. Kness.
The case was announced by US Attorney Andrew S. Boutros and Frank Padula, Acting Field Office Director of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Chicago. The conviction subjects Salgado-Delgadillo to removal from the US.
The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the government’s interest in keeping convicted criminals from re-entering the US. Salgado-Delgadillo’s actions demonstrate a disregard for the law and a threat to public safety.
