Meth Kingpin Busted in Sioux Falls
A Sioux Falls man has been accused of being at the helm of a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation that spanned several years. Clinton Provincial, 33, was indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiring to distribute the highly addictive substance in South Dakota and elsewhere from August 2009 to February 2013.
According to prosecutors, Provincial’s operation was a multi-state endeavor that brought in significant profits. The indictment alleges that he worked with others to distribute methamphetamine, a highly addictive and deadly substance.
Provincial’s arrest and subsequent indictment are the result of an ongoing investigation by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ted L. McBride is prosecuting the case.
The charge against Provincial carries a hefty penalty, with a minimum of 5 years and up to 40 years in prison, along with a $5,000,000 fine. However, Provincial has pleaded not guilty to the indictment and will face a trial on May 28, 2013.
Provincial was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal following his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on March 26, 2013. The prosecution has yet to present its case, and Provincial will remain in custody until his trial.
The indictment serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine on communities across the country. The substance has been linked to numerous violent crimes, health problems, and financial struggles.
The case against Provincial is ongoing, and the Grimy Times will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. The indictment is merely an accusation, and Provincial is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
