COVINGTON, Ky. – In a relentless crackdown on drug cartels, David M. Elliot, 35, of Maysville, Kentucky, has been sentenced to 262 months in federal prison for his role in methamphetamine trafficking.
The sentence, handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge David Bunning, comes after law enforcement authorities intercepted Elliot and his co-defendant, Courtney Beckett, on September 1, 2024. During a traffic stop, officers discovered a staggering amount of meth: two bags in Beckett’s purse and 165.5 grams on Elliot’s waistband.
Elliot confessed that the drugs were his, and he had instructed Beckett to carry them during their trip from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky back to Maysville. The defendant’s previous conviction for trafficking controlled substances in Mason Circuit Court and his parole status at the time of this offense only added fuel to the fire.
“Elliot’s sentence is a testament to our unwavering commitment to dismantle drug cartels and protect our communities,” said Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Elliot will serve 85 percent of his sentence before being released and placed under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 10 years.
Beckett was previously sentenced to 66 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The DEA and Ft. Thomas Police Department conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel King leading the prosecution on behalf of the United States.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the relentless efforts being made to combat drug trafficking across the nation.
