Two Council Bluffs residents have been taken down by federal authorities for their involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking ring.
Diana Morales, 30, of Council Bluffs, and her co-defendant Donavan Edward Belt, 25, of Council Bluffs, were sentenced in federal court for their roles in the operation.
According to public court documents, Morales was a drug supplier to Belt, who distributed methamphetamine in the Council Bluffs metropolitan area.
In February 2023, law enforcement completed a controlled buy at Morales’ residence, resulting in the seizure of 112.97 grams of actual methamphetamine. A subsequent search warrant led to the discovery of additional methamphetamine.
Belt pleaded guilty to count one of a three-count indictment and was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison. Morales pleaded guilty to two counts of a three-count indictment and was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison.
Both defendants will serve a term of supervised release after their prison terms. Morales will serve a three-year term, while Belt will serve a five-year term.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing, praising the hard work of the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force and the Council Bluffs Police Department for their investigation.
The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat of methamphetamine trafficking in our communities and the need for continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies to combat this scourge.
