Lakeland Man Gets 20 Years for Meth Trafficking
A 45-year-old man from Lakeland, Florida, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Ricky Muoio was found guilty by a jury on November 6, 2013, of distribution of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, on April 11, 2013, Muoio sold two ounces of methamphetamine for $3,000 to a confidential source working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The sale took place at his residence in Lakeland.
Four days later, DEA agents executed a federal search warrant at Muoio’s residence and found approximately 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine, $3,500 in cash, and a digital scale.
The case was investigated by the DEA and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kathy J.M. Peluso.
Muoio’s sentence is a result of his guilty verdict and the evidence presented at trial, which demonstrated the severity of his crimes.
As Muoio begins his 20-year sentence, the community can rest a little easier knowing that a major player in the methamphetamine trade is off the streets.
This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine trafficking in our region and the consequences that come with it.
