A 50-year-old Eagle Grove man is headed to federal prison after being convicted of conspiring to distribute more than 5 pounds of pure methamphetamine in the Wright and Webster County areas.
Donovan Lalor, a resident of Eagle Grove, Iowa, was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. At a plea hearing, Lalor admitted to conspiring with others to distribute the illicit substance from January 2019 through March 2020.
Lalor revealed that he obtained up to half-pound quantities of meth from a source located within 1,000 feet of a protected location, namely, Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He then redistributed the meth with other co-conspirators in the area.
Lalor’s sentencing was held before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. He was sentenced to 60 months’ imprisonment and must serve an additional 8 years of supervised release following his imprisonment. Lalor is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal and will be transported to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Grove Police Department, and Iowa Criminalistics Laboratory.
The prosecution highlighted the severity of the crime and the impact it has on the community. ‘This conviction is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in our community,’ said a spokesperson for the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle the networks that bring this substance into our state.’
Lalor’s case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine distribution in Iowa. The state has seen a significant increase in methamphetamine-related crimes in recent years, and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to combat the issue.
