Kelly Marie Myers, a 56-year-old woman from Flatwoods, West Virginia, was involved in a methamphetamine trafficking scheme that used the US Mail to bring large quantities of the drug into the state. The scheme was uncovered when US Postal Inspection Service personnel intercepted a suspicious package in Charleston, West Virginia. The package, which contained approximately 890 grams of methamphetamine, was mailed from Moreno Valley, California, and addressed to Myers.
The investigation began when inspectors obtained a federal search warrant for the package and discovered the methamphetamine inside. They then removed the drugs and allowed the package to be picked up at the Flatwoods Post Office, where Myers was caught retrieving it. Myers was sentenced to 12 months in prison for her role in the scheme.
The US Postal Inspection Service investigated the case, with Assistant US Attorney Andrew Cogar prosecuting on behalf of the government. Chief US District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
The use of the US Mail to traffic methamphetamine is a serious offense, and law enforcement agencies are working to crack down on such schemes. The sentence handed down to Myers reflects the severity of the crime and the importance of preventing the spread of methamphetamine in West Virginia.
