A Cedar Rapids woman has been brought to justice for her role in a large-scale methamphetamine conspiracy. Brandy Herman, 48, received a 12-year prison term after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and multiple counts of distribution of a controlled substance.
Herman’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing hearing revealed the extent of her involvement in the drug trafficking organization. Evidence showed that Herman received multiple packages containing methamphetamine from California, which were mailed to her address in Cedar Rapids through the US Postal Service. One of her co-conspirators used Herman’s daughter’s address to receive packages containing the illicit substance.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep, who worked closely with the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of the US Department of Justice. The OCDETF program is a cooperative effort between the US Postal Inspection Service, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force.
The DEA Task Force consists of the DEA, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Marion Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement. Their collaborative efforts led to Herman’s indictment and subsequent guilty plea.
Herman was sentenced to 145 months’ imprisonment, followed by a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. She is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.
The case file number is 22-CR-91, and court documents can be accessed through the US District Court for the Northern District of Iowa’s electronic filing system. The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine trafficking on communities and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to dismantle these organizations.
