David Vasbinder, Meth Trafficking, Rhode Island 2026

PROVIDENCE, RI – David Vasbinder, 40, of Providence, is staring down the barrel of another federal prison sentence after admitting to trafficking methamphetamine, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced today. This isn’t Vasbinder’s first rodeo with federal drug charges; he was previously convicted in Florida, making him a repeat offender with a clear disregard for the law.

Vasbinder pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on October 2, 2025, leaving the ultimate punishment up to a federal judge who will weigh sentencing guidelines and other factors. Given his prior conviction, a significant sentence is almost guaranteed.

The bust went down in February 2022 when Glocester, RI police pulled Vasbinder over for speeding. Turns out, a warrant was already out for his arrest in an unrelated Providence matter. A subsequent search of his vehicle – authorized by a court – revealed a hefty 126 grams of 100% pure methamphetamine. That’s a substantial amount of the drug, enough to supply a significant network of users. Police also found the tools of the trade: items used for packaging and distributing the meth.

And it wasn’t just the drugs police seized. Officers also recovered $972 in cash from Vasbinder’s person and his vehicle, likely proceeds from his illegal operation. The cash, combined with the pure meth, paints a clear picture of a calculated criminal enterprise.

This isn’t a first-time offense for Vasbinder. Court records show he was convicted back in October 2019 in the Southern District of Florida on two counts of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crystal methamphetamine. He received a 48-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release – a system he clearly failed to respect. This latest conviction suggests a pattern of behavior and a continued commitment to profiting from the misery of others.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine D. Lowell is prosecuting the Rhode Island case. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Glocester Police Department, the Rhode Island DEA Drug Task Force, and the West Warwick Police Department, demonstrating a unified front against drug trafficking in the state. This case serves as a stark reminder that those who peddle poison will be relentlessly pursued and held accountable.
