A 44-year-old Aroostook County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation in Maine.
Greg Libby, 44, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine on July 1, 2021. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
According to court records, between July 2018 and May 2019, Libby and his co-conspirators obtained methamphetamine from sources in Mexico and distributed it in Aroostook County and other parts of central and northern Maine.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigated the case with the assistance of multiple state and local law enforcement agencies, including the Presque Isle Police Department.
The operation was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) effort, which uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to disrupt and dismantle high-level criminal organizations.
Libby’s sentence marks a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in Maine, and serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in such activities.
