Meth Trafficker Indicted

In a stunning move, a Talladega County man has been charged with distributing methamphetamine, according to a federal indictment. Taylor Alan Panneton, 31, of Sylacauga, faces charges of distributing methamphetamine and possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine on Nov. 7 in Jefferson County.

Panneton was arrested in November at the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa by Vestavia Hills Police. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $3 million fine.

In a separate case, Joshua Clint McCarley, 34, of Hodges, has been indicted on charges of distributing methamphetamine on Aug. 12 in Franklin County and possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine on Jan. 6 in Franklin County. McCarley was arrested at his home by Marion County Sheriff’s deputies in January.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the DEA. An indictment contains only charges, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The DEA’s investigation into Panneton and McCarley is ongoing, and it remains to be seen how these charges will affect the community. One thing is certain, however: the fight against methamphetamine distribution and possession with intent to distribute is a top priority for law enforcement.

As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: the consequences for those caught distributing or possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine are severe. We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
