Meth Trafficker Sentenced to 75 Months in Prison

A Thomas County, Georgia, dog’s discovery of a bag containing 154.78 grams of methamphetamine has led to a prison sentence for a Meigs man with a history of felony convictions.

Timothy Bernard Reese, 44, of Meigs, Georgia, was sentenced to serve 75 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Hugh Lawson after Reese pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The unusual circumstances surrounding the discovery of the methamphetamine began when a resident of Ochlocknee, Georgia, called authorities on December 13, 2019, after his dog returned home carrying a suspicious brown satchel. The owner reported that when he opened the bag, he found what appeared to be large quantities of illegal narcotics and immediately called the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office.

Agents from the Thomas County-Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Unit were able to pinpoint the exact location and time that lottery tickets found in the bag had been purchased. Surveillance video from Susie Q’s Foods in Meigs showed Reese purchasing the tickets on December 16, 2019. An arrest warrant was obtained for Reese the next day, and he was taken into custody on December 19, 2019.

Reese has prior felony convictions for burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, both in the Superior Court of Tift County. A woman also filed a report with the Cairo Police Department alleging that Reese punched her in the face, fracturing her eye socket, and demanded to know the location of his methamphetamine.

‘The unusual facts in this case do not diminish the serious consequences repeat offenders face when caught trafficking methamphetamine in the Middle District of Georgia,’ said Acting U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary. ‘Our office, working alongside our law enforcement partners, will work to bring to justice those who repeatedly break the law and endanger citizens by their criminal actions.’

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sonja Profit prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Thomas County-Thomasville Narcotics & Vice Unit.
