Meth Traffickers Get Prison Time
Steve Torres, a 43-year-old Las Vegas resident, has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for his role in selling large quantities of methamphetamine. Torres was one of three men, including Uriel Delgado, 37, and Jose Rosell, who were involved in a meth trafficking operation that spanned several months in 2018.
According to court documents, Torres arranged and sold a total of 657 grams (approximately 1 ½ pounds) of methamphetamine to an undercover law enforcement officer between April and May 2018. Co-defendants Jose Rosell and Uriel Delgado assisted Torres with two of the five sales.
After the fifth sale, Torres, Delgado, and Rosell were arrested. A search of Torres’s vehicle after his arrest turned up 79 grams of methamphetamine, while a search of Rosell’s home produced 272 grams of methamphetamine, a .380 caliber firearm, and approximately $19,600.
Torres pleaded guilty in July 2019 and was sentenced to 96 months in prison. Delgado also pleaded guilty in July 2019 and was sentenced to four years in prison. Rosell pleaded guilty in December 2018 and was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison.
The case was the result of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant U.S. Attorneys Allison Reese and Christopher Lin prosecuted the case.
Torres and Delgado’s sentences are a reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in meth trafficking. As U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Trutanich for the District of Nevada noted, ‘these sentences demonstrate our commitment to holding accountable those who seek to profit from the sale of illicit substances.’
