Methamphetamine Kingpin Sentenced to Decades Behind Bars
A Homer man will face up to life in prison after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute massive quantities of methamphetamine.
According to court documents, 44-year-old Vincent McDaniel had asked for access to a relative’s home in Homer, where authorities discovered 526.7 grams of methamphetamine in a dryer bag on November 12, 2015. McDaniel’s relative had contacted law enforcement after finding the suspicious bag, and upon investigation, it was discovered that McDaniel had been trying to retrieve the bag before law enforcement could get to it.
McDaniel’s actions led to a massive investigation by the DEA and the Homer Police Department, which ultimately led to his guilty plea in a Shreveport courtroom. Assistant U.S. Attorney James G. Cowles is prosecuting the case.
McDaniel’s plea agreement comes with a hefty price: 10 years to life in prison, at least four years of supervised release, and a $10 million fine. The court has set a sentencing date for June 28, 2017.
The case highlights the dangers of methamphetamine distribution and the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity. The public’s assistance in preventing crimes like this is invaluable, and authorities are grateful for the tip that led to McDaniel’s arrest.
McDaniel’s fate will be decided in the coming months as he faces the consequences of his actions. His guilty plea marks a significant victory for law enforcement and a reminder that those who engage in methamphetamine distribution will be held accountable.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
