Methamphetamine Ring Busted in Tyler County
Two Sistersville residents have admitted to their roles in a methamphetamine distribution ring in Tyler County, West Virginia.
Michael Shawn Hartline, 34, and Rachel A. Cook, 28, both of Sistersville, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Aiding and Abetting Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.’
According to court documents, Hartline and Cook distributed crystal methamphetamine in Tyler County in November 2017. They each face up to 20 years incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000.
Their sentences will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account the seriousness of the offenses and the defendants’ prior criminal histories.
The investigation that led to Hartline’s and Cook’s guilty pleas was a collaborative effort involving the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and several local law enforcement agencies.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert H. McWilliams, Jr., and Shawn M. Adkins are prosecuting the cases on behalf of the government.
The case was funded in part by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF), which provides critical federal funding and coordination to help federal and state agencies work together to identify, investigate, and prosecute major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations.
Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr. presided over Hartline’s hearing, while U.S. Magistrate Judge James E. Seibert oversaw Cook’s hearing.
